Notes about Lambert I graaf van Leuven

Bijgenaamd "met de Baard", vermeld Lotharingen in 973 maar na 7 mei; ontving samen met zijn broer Reinier IV van Henegouwen de vaderlijke allodia van keizer Otto II terug in 977; voor het eerst komt Lambert I voor als graaf van Leuven in 1003; bij het overlijden van zijn zwager hertog Otto van Neder-Lotharingen erft hij diens keizerlijke lenen, waaronder Brussel, in 1012, doch voelt zich gepasseerd in de opvolging in diens functie wanneer deze aan Godfriet (II) van Verdun wordt geschonken; verbind zich daarom tegen deze, samen met zijn neef Reinier V van Henegouwen; op 12 september 1015 sneuvelt hij in de slag bij Florennes, vermoedelijk als gevolg van verwikkelingen om zijn zwager Otto II op te volgen, en is begraven te Nivelles.
