Tijdens de oorlog heeft zij een tijdje in kamp Vught gezeten vanwege het helpen van joden.
Zij runde een pension vlak bij het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. (Bron Hanneke van Dijk).

Johanna Schreuder is op 1 maart 1944 kamp Vught binnengekomen en als ‘Schutzhäftling’ nummer 0764 in de kampadministratie ingeschreven. Met ‘Schutzhaft’ (op de kampkaart aangegeven als ‘Sch’) werd een vorm van internering bedoeld die buiten het geldende Duitse procesrecht omging. Een rechter en/of advocaat kwam er niet aan te pas – er werd dus ook geen gerechtelijk onderzoek gedaan of een vonnis gewezen – maar het lot van de gevangene lag geheel in handen van de Sicherheitspolizei (Sipo). Deze bepaalde de strafmaat; in het geval van het huisvesten van onderduikers kwam deze doorgaans neer op een straf van een half jaar opsluiting. Vermoedelijk is dit ook de straf geweest die aan haar is opgelegd want zij is na zes maanden vrijgelaten. Saillant detail: haar vrijlating vond plaats op 4 september, één dag voor de ontruiming van het kamp waarbij vrijwel de gehele kampbevolking naar Duitse concentratiekampen werd overgebracht. Van daaruit zouden zij die de ontberingen zouden overleven pas in mei 1945 weer naar Nederland terugkeren.
Tijdens haar verblijf in kamp Vught is zij onder medische behandeling geweest en in de periode van 15 mei tot 2 september is zij tewerkgesteld bij het buitenkommando ‘Continental’ in Den Bosch. (Oorspronkelijk een auto- en fietsbandenfabriek, maar in 1944 werden er in hoog tempo gasmaskers gemaakt voor de duitse bevolking.)
