De Commissaris der Koningin in de provincie Overijssel verklaart, dat Arnoldus Willem Berendsen, geboren te Enschede op 21 Juni 1884, zoon van Johannes Bernardus en van Johanna Arnoldina Elderman bij de loting voor de lichting der nationale militie van het jaar 1904 voor de gemeente Enschede is ten deel gevallen nr. 192, dat, buiten oproeping gebleven zijnde, hem tot geen dienst heeft verplicht.
ZWOLLE, den 30 September 1911.

In de militieregisters van Enschede (16 juli 1904) staat o.a.: beroep magazijnknecht; lengte 1 meter 682 milimeter; lotingsnr. 192; redenen van vrijstelling bij de loting gebreken; aard der uitspraak van de militieraad aangewezen.
Wat de gebreken waren wordt niet vermeld, maar ze zullen niet heel erg geweest zijn, want uiteindelijk werd hij dus wel goed genoeg bevonden.

Arnold was bij zijn Hengelose neven beter bekend als "Druif" dan als Arnold.
