Na hem zijn onder anderen enkele leden van de Duitse beulenfamilie Fahner in deze functie actief en in de zeventiende eeuw hanteren vier leden van de familie Haevestadt in Groningen het beulszwaard. Na vader en zoon Gercken (Van Gorcum) is gedurende de hele achttiende eeuw de beul een Schneider (Snijder) en in de negentiende eeuw twee keer een Füchten beide families zijn aangetrouwd.

Bron Groninger VolksAlmanak 1925 blz. 95. Straatnaam afgeleid van de Beulstoren, met daarbij de woning van de beul of scherprechter aan de zuidzijde van de straat. Oudere naam (17e eeuw) bij de Beulije, ook wel Scherprechterstorenstraat. Uit: "Straten en pleinen, singels en stegen. Groningen binnen de wallen". K. Feringa.
