Dirk Pieter Fluijt was eigenaar van een tjalk waarmee hij in het voorjaar en de zomer met een eigen wafel- en poffertjeskraam naar de kermissen ging. De rest van het jaar voer hij met aardappelen vanuit Zeeland naar België, vaak naar Brussel. Daar verkocht hij de aardappelen per mud aan de frietkramen.
De tjalk is in 1910 in Wilnis gebouwd.
Het schip heette "Les Cinq Frères", naar de vijf zonen van Dirk Pieter.
Gerard Laurens Cornelis Fluijt was één van de vijf zonen.
