After the death of her brother Hendrik, she inherited Zutphen. Ermgard was married to Gerard II van Gelre and received him with the following children: Hendrik (-1182) Salome, married to Count Hendrik I of Oldenburg-Wildeshausen (-1167). They became the parents of Count Hendrik II of Oldenburg-Wildeshausen who married Beatrix of Hallermund. She was a daughter of Wilbrand I of Loccum-Hallermund. Gerhard van Oldenburg, Bishop of Osnabrück from 1192 to 1216 and then Archbishop of Bremen from 1216 to 1219.
