Mr. Arnoldus Commelin, gedoopt te Amsterdam in de Westerkerk 17 Oct. 1692, begr. ald. in de Oude Kerk 6 Oct. 1746. Hij was een zoon van Johannes Commelin (2), die volgt, werd 8-03-1711 student in de rechten te Leiden,12-09-1711 poorter te Amsterdam en promoveerde tot doctor juris te Leiden op proefschrift De Societate (Lugd, Bat. 1713) Hij was daarna van 1715-1731 notaris in zijn geboortestad. Op 27 Oct. 1719 teekende hij aldaar ten huwelijk aan met Susanna Catharina Homoet. Uit dit huwelijk werden vier kinderen geboren, w.o. Mr. Johannes Bernardus Commelin, die volgt, en Susanna Maria Commelin, die huwde met Cornelis Buys van Keulen, lid van het boekverkoopersgeslacht van dien naam.
Zijn door J.M. Quinckhard geschilderd portret komt voor op een regentenstuk van het spinhuis in het werkhuis te Amsterdam.
