Siegfried Salomon Bloemendaal werd op 8 augustus 1908 geboren in 's-Heerenberg als zoon van Mozes Bloemendaal en Helena Kamp. Zijn moeder was een zuster van Abraham Kamp. Hij trouwde op 18 januari 1933 in Bergh met Rosa Schlosser, geboren op 8 juli 1906. Het echtpaar woonde op het adres Klinkerstraat 34 in 's-Heerenberg.

Om zijn niet-Joodse vrouw en daarmee ook zijn kinderen van vervolging te vrijwaren, liet hij zich in de Tweede Wereldoorlog scheiden. Het huwelijk werd op 14 december 1942 ontbonden. Niet lang daarna is Siegfried ondergedoken in Azewijn (Gl), dichtbij zijn 'ex' echtgenote en kinderen. Zodoende heeft hij de oorlog overleefd en kon op 22 juni 1945 hertrouwen met Rosa.

Siegfried had een handel in radio's, rijwielen en elektronische- en verlichtings-artikelen. Met daarnaast een werkplaats waar fietsen werden gerepareerd, had hij een goed lopende zaak. In 1936 werd hij lid van Sociëteit 'De Vriendschap'. Tijdens de oorlog, voordat hij onderdook, had hij een artikel met de tegenstrijdige naam 'Verduisteringslamp' in zijn assortiment. Siegfried werd opgeroepen in het Nederlandse leger en bediende in 1941 tijdens het 'Blitzkrieg' bombardement boven Rotterdam de zoeklichten van luchtafweergeschut. Omdat de spoorwegen niet werkten ondernam Rosa een zoektocht naar Siegfried en reisde per bus en liep vervolgens dagenlang van 's-Heerenberg richting Rotterdam. Het is (nog) onduidelijk of ze hem heeft gevonden.

's-Heerenberg (Gl) ligt vlakbij de Duitse grens. Net over de Nederlands-Duitse grens ligt de plaats Emmerik (Emmerich). Ongeveer eens per maand bezocht de familie van Siegfried Salomon familieleden in Emmerich.

Siegfried Salomon's familie woonde aan de andere zijde van de straat in de Klinkerstraat 34 te 's-Heerenberg (Gl). Het woonkamerraam van het ouderlijke huis was ingericht als winkelraam voor de verkoop van fietsonderdelen. Siegfried repareerde de fietsen in hun garage.

Dochter Regina Marianne werd ooit door een Duitse Nazi-soldaat van de trap gegooid toen de Nazi's op zoek waren naar de ondergedoken Siegfried. Op enig moment werd Siegfried's familie het huis uitgegooid waarop Nazi-soldaten het huis in bezit namen. Een mevrouw genaamd: Lotte, die vlakbij in 's-Heerenberg woonde, heeft echtgenote Rosa en de kinderen Regina Marianne en Erich in haar huis opgenomen.

Na de oorlog verhuisde het herenigde gezin van 's-Heerenberg naar Bussum (Nh), vervolgens naar Utrecht, en weer terug naar Bussum. Siegfried verliet 's-Heerenberg om in Bussum een zaak in verlichtingsartikelen te runnen voor Isaac Groet (een neef ?) terwijl Regina Marianne de middelbare school doorliep. De vermoedelijke neef Isaac Groet had vier zaken en woonde in Hilversum en een vakantiehuis in Scheveningen.
