Mijn grootvader was timmerman en begon in 1914 in Haarlem voor zich zelf, in de Linschotenstraat (wijk Rozenpriëel), rond 1925 in de Lange Boogaardstraat (wijk De Vijfhoek), later Burgemeester Rampstraat (wijk Leidsebuurt). In de tussentijd werd hij ook trappenmaker en aannemer. In NHA Beeldbank is in kranten wat over hem te vinden: huis gebouwd van Merlenlaan Heemstede, winkels verbouwd in GroteHoustraat en Schotersingel. In 1928 redde hij een kind uit de Brouwersvaart en kreeg hiervoor de Carnegie medaille in 1929. Hij was penningmeester van het open lucht bad De Delft aan 't Hoenstraat wijk Kleverpark tegenover de ijsbaan en Kennemer Sportcentrum.
