Hendrik Jan Wenthol, zoon van Ellardus Wentholt, gedoopt te Heusden 26.8.1725. Gaat in ondertrouw 13.9.1749 met Agnita, Jacoba Engelbergh, vrouw van Gansoijen, weduwe van Cornelis Jacob Hagelis.
Hendrik Jan is lid van Illustere Lieve Vrouwe Broederschap te Den Bosch 1780;

HEUSDEN - In de Wijksestraat 38 zijn momenteel het atelier en het museum van kunstenaar Clemens Briels gevestigd. Maar de geschiedenis van het pand gaat terug tot de Middeleeuwen.

Nummer 38 is het opvallendste pand aan de Wijksestraat. Niet alleen omdat het het grootste pand, is maar het heeft bovendien een prachtige gevel uit de 18e eeuw. In dit pand woonde Hendrik Jan Wendholt met zijn vrouw Agneta Jacoba Engelenberg. Hendrik Jan Wendholt leefde van 1725 tot 1785, hij had de financiële functie van borgemeester van Heusden en was vrijheer van Gansoijen. Langs de grote deur is een gebeeldhouwde houten omlijsting aangebracht. Dit maakt deel uit van het alliantiewapen van de families Wendholt en Engel(en)berg. In het wapen van Wendholt is de bijl met een geknopte steel te zien. In het wapen van Engelenberg staat een engel bij een berg met waterbron en ganzen. Op de begane grond van het pand is een tegel gelicht en vervangen door een dikke glazen plaat. Hieronder is nog een put uit de middeleeuwen te zien. Zon zestig centimeter zeer helder water ligt op de zes meter diep gelegen bodem. Het water sijpelt door de stenen putwand naar beneden. De hele Wijksestraat is onderkeldert geweest. Alle kelders zijn in het verleden gedicht, maar op nummer 38 is deze weer zorgvuldig opengehakt. De originele kruisgewelf kelder van 10 meter lang, 5 meter breed en iets meer dan 2 meter hoog, is nu weer in gebruik. Het is er vochtig. De muren zijn tot ongeveer anderhalve meter hoogte geïmpregneerd om het vocht tegen te houden. In het plafond van de kelder hangen nog oude haken. Ooit gebruikt als vleeshaken? Feit is dat de kelder een constante temperatuur heeft, die zomers koel aanvoelt en s winters aangenaam warm. De tegels van de kelder zijn nog origineel en dus van rond 1400. In het streekarchief is nog terug te vinden welke families hier vanaf de Middeleeuwen hebben gewoond.
