    Zijn sterfdatum wordt dan gesitueerd omdat zijn opvolger, Arnold I van Loon op die datum voor het eerst in de geschiedenis opduikt. Emmo was hoogstwaarschijnlijk de zoon van de eerste graaf, Giselbert van Loon. Emmo's broer Otto was abt van de abdij te Sint-Truiden. Emmo was getrouwd met Swanhilde.
