Hij was als heer van Chièvres ook een vazal van de graaf van Henegouwen, met wie hij in conflict kwam over de verkoop van Aat aan de graaf door zijn schoonzuster. Boudewijn IV van Henegouwen bereikte een akkoord met Raas waarbij Raas zijn verzet opgaf, in ruil voor een afkoopsom. Hij begeleidde wellicht Filips van de Elzas in 1177 op kruistocht. Gehuwd met Mathilde van Liedekerke, vrouwe van Aalst.
