    Arnould Berthout, décédé en 1147, seigneur du pays de Malines, avoué de la ville de Malines pour l'église de Liège en 1125. Il est fils aîné de Gauthier Ier Berthout et d'Adelise (?) de Grimbergen.

    Biographie

    C'est de son temps qu'aurait débuté lieu la fameuse "guerre de Grimbergen" vers 1142, si désastreuse pour sa maison.

    Peu après le décès prématuré de Godefroid II de Louvain, ses vassaux Arnould Berthout et son frère Gérard de Grimbergen, opposés à tout renforcement du pouvoir des comtes de Louvain, ducs de Basse-Lotharingie, et jugeant le moment propice pour lui ravir ses domaines, ont recours à la force. Ces 2 vassaux détruisent le château de Nedalaer, près de Vilvorde, ainsi que le bourg et le manoir que le duc y possède.

    Cette "guerre" aurait duré près d'une vingtaine d'années, terminée vers 1159 par l'incendie et la totale destruction de la forteresse de Grimbergen.
    Filiation

    Arnould décéda en 1147, laissant trois fils; on ne connaît pas le nom de son épouse.
