    Lotharius van Süpplingenburg of Supplinburg (Lutterloh bij Unterlüß, eind juni 1075 - Breitenwang (Tirol), 4 december 1137) was een zoon van graaf Gebhard van Supplinburg, die behoorde tot de Saksische adel, en Hedwig van Formbach. Hij werd postuum geboren, enkele weken nadat zijn vader gesneuveld was in de Slag bij Langensalza. Door het tweede huwelijk van zijn moeder werd hij de stiefzoon van de hertog van Opper-Lotharingen, Diederik van Opper-Lotharingen (-1115).

    Toen in 1106 Magnus van Saksen stierf zonder erfgenamen, kreeg hij het hertogdom Saksen toegewezen van Hendrik V. Bij de verkiezing van de Rooms-koning in 1125 kwam hij verrassend als overwinnaar uit de bus. De keurvorst van Mainz, aartsbisschop Adalbert, zag in hem een geschikte kandidaat als machtige edelman, maar al op leeftijd en zonder mannelijke opvolger. Hij kwam hierdoor wel in conflict met de Hohenstaufen (hertogen van Zwaben). In 1133 werd hij in Rome tot keizer gekroond.

    Zijn echtgenote was Richenza van Northeim. Zijn dochter Gertrudis (1115-1143) was eerst getrouwd met hertog Hendrik de Trotse van Beieren en nadien met markgraaf Hendrik II van Oostenrijk.
