    Terwijl Opa Bakker ondergedoken zat werd zijn naam niet genoemd. Zijn 'schuilnaam" was opa Japie.

    Bijna één jaar oud was Opa Bakker toen zijn ouders Jan Bakker en Trijntje Stam naar het Waarland vertrokken om zich op de boerenplaats 't Hol, nabij de scheidingssloot tussen Slootgaard- en Waarlandspolder, te vestigen. Opa trouwde met Anna Tesselaar en zij gingen in een klein huisje wonen dat dichtbij de boerderij stond van vader Jan Bakker. Enige jaren later verhuisden zij naar de boerenstolp aan het einde van de Slootgaard nabij de wipbrug.
    De mannen Bakker waren klein van postuur en in de volksmond sprak men dikwijls van "Ceesie Bakker van de Wup". Een aanduiding dat hij bij de wipbrug in de Slootgaard woonde. Opa Bakker vestigde zich daar als tuinder en werd tevens brugwachter. Dit werk deed hij voor de Banne van Harenkarspel. Als vergoeding ontving hij ƒ 100,-- per jaar en tevens kreeg hij vrij gebruik van een halve hectare landbouwgrond dat in de "oude Slootgaard" lag. (Dit oude land was het meest noordelijke deel van het vroegere eiland de Speketer, en lag binnen de ringdijk van de polder, maar behoorde wel tot de Slootgaardpolder).

    Slootgaard is een buurtschap in de gemeente Harenkarspel in de Provincie Noord-Holland.
    Slootgaard is van oorsprong een poldergemeenschap dat ten zuiden van Waarland is gelegen. De naam is afkomstig van het meertje 'de slootgaard'. In 1590 werd dit meertje doorgemalen door de Slootgaardmolen, die daarvoor werd gebouwd. Zo ontstond de Slootgaardpolder waarin Waarland en Slootgaard zijn gelegen. De molen is nog altijd te vinden in de plaats. Ondanks het feit dat de weg vrij smal is zitten er nogal wat grote boerenbedrijven aan de Slootgaard. De bewoning is verder erg gemixt van stolpboerderijen, villa's en vrijstaande huizen. Slootgaard wordt niet altijd meer als een opzichzelfstaande plaats gezien en wordt samen met Bliekenbos nogal eens onder buurtschap Schagerwaard gerekend maar valt formeel onder Waarland terwijl de andere onder Dirkshorn valt.
