Dirk Bruin, Boer Bruijn in de volksmond, huwde 3 keer. De eerste keer met Antje Noordstrand van Den Helder. Haar vader was echter in Heerhugowaard geboren. In de eerste helft van de 19e eeuw vertrokken nogal wat jonge mannen uit Waarland en omg. naar het Koegras van Den Helder.
Dit had twee redenen, de eerste was dat voor de zonen uit de kinderrijke gezinnen geen goed land beschikbaar was om een bedrijf te beginnen, de tweede reden lag in het feit dat het Koegras omstreeks die tijd te koop werd aangeboden.
Wij vinden daarom de familienaam Volkers, Bruin, Smit, Noordstrand en Kos terug in het noordelijk deel van onze provincie.
Het tweede huwelijk met Geertje van Schagen bleef kinderloos.
Uit het derde huwelijk werden nog 6 kinderen geboren waarvan alleen Jan en Tinus levensvatbaar bleken te zijn.
Zijn derde echtgenoot heette overigens Neeltje Bruin en was een dochter van zijn vriend Jan Bruin. Een relatie tussen deze beide families is echter niet aantoonbaar. - Record.
