    De werf ‘De Koning David’ van de weduwe F. Hinloopen

    Dit was de werf die oorspronkelijk op het eiland Uilenburg lag. De wervenlijst van de Vereniging De Binnenvaart omschrijft het zo: “De weduwe Hinloopen of Hindeloopen had in 1897 een scheepstimmerwerf ‘Koning David‘ gelegen aan de Klokkengang tussen de percelen Uilenburgerstraat 69 en 81.”2 Het precieze adres is, blijkens het briefhoofd van de werf, Uilenburgerstraat 79. De werf is op 24 augustus 1870 opgericht door Frans Hinloopen, die is overleden op 4 maart 1896, waarna zijn weduwe de werf voortzette.
    Die weduwe (haar meisjesnaam was overigens Barbara Veltenaar4) was kennelijk een formidabele dame. Haar man is in 1896 overleden, Barbara was toen 53 en had 11 kinderen gekregen, waarvan er 4 gestorven zijn voordat ze vijf jaar oud waren. Maar ze is na de dood van haar man niet stil gaan zitten. Integendeel: al in 1897 diende ze een hinderwet-aanvraag in “voor het plaatsen van eene veldsmidse” op het terrein van de werf.5 Enkele jaren later, in 1900, kocht ze een deel van het terrein van de werf ‘Hollandia‘: het perceel Grote Wittenburgerstraat 160.6 7 Deze transactie wordt bevestigd in de wervenlijst van de Vereniging De Binnenvaart.8 Ook de Maritiem Historische Databank (MarHistData) beschrijft de aankoop.9
