Obit, In this city, July 31, 1933. Lulu Rose Beel, beloved wife of Philip S. Beel, loving mother of Julian B. Ephraim, sister of Mrs. Violet Baum, Mrs. Vivian English, Leon A. Goldstein, Mrs. Irene Call, and Mrs. Harry Pechon, a native of Oroville, Butte, California, USA; interment Salem Cemetery.
Why she did not mention grandchildren but did mention her son. In the 1920 census, grandchildren Bernard and Alita were lodging in SF with Roland Lively, 28, and wife Priscilla. Were they adopted out and lost track ofss I did not find Leonard, who in 1920 would have been about 7.
Lulus probate file (SF Superior Court #65030). Her heirs at law included her husband Philip and son Julian. The list goes on to name one grandson, Leonard (age 21). All her siblings were listed with addresses. Why name one grandchild but not the other twoss Perhaps the older two were adopted out but not the youngestss Or did Julian not keep track of his kidsss Julian contested the settlement, claiming that Lulu had been incompetent since 1911 and that Lulus husband Philip had retained the proceeds from the sale of her assets and had retained rents for his own use. Eventually Julian withdrew his opposition when Philip presented an accounting and showed that Lulus property was rundown and the rents very minimal. Julian at that time lived in Corte Madera and Leonard in SF (addresses in file). Those other two grandchildrenPatricia Alita and Bernard were not mentioned in the probate search while their brother Leonard was, parents born Germany
