JAN ROGGE geboren 5 maart 1888, overleden 7 januari 1959
Jan Rogge, Zaankanter van geboorte, heeft zijn vruchtbaar leven gewijd aan de verbreiding en verspreiding van de cultuur, vooral met het doel het genot daarvan mede bereikbaar te doen worden voor mensen met bescheiden middelen.
Reeds als 18-jarige jongeman trad hij op als bibliothecaris van een Amsterdamse speeltuinvereniging. Toen was hij bediende bij de firma Van Eeghen & Co. aldaar. In latere jaren vervulde hij lang de eervolle functie van oudste procuratiehouder dier onderneming. Door hoge idealen gedreven, wierp de heer Rogge zich spoedig nadat hij, in 1922, te Hilversum was komen wonen, op de bevordering van kennis en kunst ten bate van brede lagen der bevolking. Voornamelijk aan zijn initiatief en onverdroten ijver zijn het ont- staan (in 1927) en de bloei van de Kunstkring voor Allen (toonkunst) te danken. Meer dan dertig jaren werkte hij, als leidende secretaris, aan de organisatie van lezingen, voordrachten en uitvoeringen van de Vereniging voor Volksontwikkeling (voorheen Instituut voor Arbeidersontwikkeling).
In het curatorium van het Avond Lyceum voor onderwijs aan volwas- senen en de besturen van verschillende culturele instellingen in de gemeente de heer Rogge zijn tijd en zijn kracht aanverhoging van het geestelijk peil.
Ook in zijn hoedanigheid van secretaris-penningmeester van de Henriette Roland-Holst Stichting spreidde hij zijn bezielend en organisatorisch talent ten toon. Als auteur deed hij zich kennen in zijn "Proeve ener geschiedenis van het Handelshuis VanEeghen" en in een beschrijving van "Het geslacht Rogge te Zaandam".
