Notes about William Edward Henderson

I believe that he fought at Ypres in WW1 and was gassed and later in life went blind.
Cousin Jean said 'he was so funny about his blindness did not talk about it would not use a white stick said 'I am not advertising anything about it' I remember him getting quite stroppy with me one day when I mentioned about it. I think he was in his 70's and my father had him as Tea Boy on one of the labouring jobs he was on. Gran was not allowed to read during the colder weather when they had the coal fires on and she loved to read as she could not do much else as she said when she turned the page over he thought a coal had fallen out the fire and would burn the house down.
When he married Lilian, his parents disapproved of her and cut him off from the family.
At 1911 census living with wife, Lilian and 2 daughters, Lilian and Rose.
