Alberta Irene Chance Elrod
MOULTRIE — Alberta Irene Chance Elrod, 88, of Moultrie, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at Magnolia Manor South.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Midway Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Jackson officiating.

Interment will follow in Midway Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Lamar Giles, Jerry Giles, Melvin Sloan, Roscoe Gay, Darrell Gay, Steve Sorrells, Wayne Lacey and Art Harvin.

Born Aug. 2, 1921, in Colquitt County, she was the daughter of the late John Mack Chance and Mary Myrtle Sloan Chance.

She was a homemaker and a member of Midway Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Elrod; her grandson, Lee Elrod; and the father of her children, Odis Elrod.

Surviving are four daughters, Laverne and Joe Norman, Larue and Jack Calhoun, Myra and Roger Norman and Annette and Jerry Tillman, all of Moultrie; daughter-in-law, Cathy Elrod of Moultrie; one brother, Howard Chance (Elizabeth) of Roanoke, Va.; two sisters, Bessie Mae Barry of Coolidge and Annie Laura Stripling of Pavo; fourteen grandchildren, Joey Norman (Reneé), Benita Harrod (Rodney), Jamie Elrod (Buffy), Jackson Calhoun (Fiona), Jill Grantham (Will), Jared Sherrard (Heather), Heather Green (Tim), Holly Harrod, Rusty Richmond (Summer), Clay Tillman, Angie Kornatowski (Matt), Stephanie Hollandsworth (Michael), Scott Tillman (Aprile) and Donna White (Robert); twenty-four great-grandchildren, Bentley Hughes, Allen Jackson, Austin Harrod, Brooke Holland, Allison Richmond, Kensley Green, Kailyn Green, Kaylee Green, Hannah Hollandsworth, Ethan Hollandsworth, Lily Tillman, Henry Tillman, Hayden Tillman, Daley Scott, Dalton Scott, Brandon Elrod, Peyton Elrod, Lainey Jane Elrod, Brodie Elrod, Bayleigh Swain, Jack Calhoun IV, Cal Grantham, Cade Grantham and Lily Belle Sherrard.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., today, Oct. 27, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

The family may be contacted at the home of Larue and Jack Calhoun, 280 Lower Meigs Road in Moultrie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midway Freewill Baptist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Cobb Funeral Chapel.
