Lessie Sloan Murphy
Lessie Sloan Murphy, 81, of Route 6, died Tuesday at Colquitt Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Midway Freewill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

The Revs. Glenn Thomas and Chuck Scarborough will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Larry Sloan, Lamar Giles, Jerry Giles, Irvin Murphy, Art Harvin and Dennis Elrod.

A homemaker, Mrs. Murphy was born Dec. 28, 1909, in Colquitt County, daughter of the late Henry David Sloan and the late Ruth Murphy Sloan.

She had lived in Moultrie all of her life, and was a member of Midway Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Murphy of Moultrie; two daughters, Kathryn Russell and Linda Faison, bot h o f Moultrie; four brothers, Wright Sloan of Meigs, and Walter Sloan, Gordon Sloan and Rufus Sloan, all of Moultrie ; three sisters, Ethel Wiggins of Holly Hill, Fla., Julie Thompson and Ella Mae Giles, both of Moultrie; nine grandchildren and 2 great-grand-children.

Cobb Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

The body will remain at the funeral home until it is placed in the church one hour before the funeral time.
