Notes about Elijah W "Elige" Williams

Elijah Williams was a son of Asa and Susan Williams buried at the front of Elijah's grave. His wife was Mary Elizabeth Newberry (1846-1921). He died in 1929 as was written in an early Williams family Bible.

Elijah Williams enlisted in the Confederate Army as a Private in Company E, 1st Regiment, 1st Brigade, Georgia State Troops on 8 October, 1861. Roll dated 8 April 1862, last on file, shows him present. He mustered out in April 1862, and then enlisted as a Private in Company E, 55th Regiment GA Infantry on 3 May 1862. He was captured at Cumberland Gap, Tennessee on 9 September 1863. He was released at Camp Douglas, Illinois on 15 June 1865 at the end of the Civil War.
