Notes about Ezekiel Allen

-1- From the 'Fort Worth City Directory', 19201-30. Burton Bldg., Tel Lamar 102's 8 years old. EZ left home when he was 14. He supposedly rode a bicycle, twice, from St. Louis to San Francisco.']. He was [re]married to a woman named Ruth. Ruth was a cripple; one leg was withered and short; she used crutches. Grandpa was her fifth husband. All the others had died. My Mom didn't like her because she thought there was something amiss with all the previous husband's deaths. Ruth always came out to the good financially after each death. She dressed attractively. She was a true blonde who wore plenty of make-up and was always hospitable and smiling. They lived northwest of Marlow near the old Beaver Schoolhouse. My Uncle Jed Robertson lived only a few miles from them so we visited them occasionally, but did not stay very long since Grandma Robertson and Uncle Jed's house was our destination. Grandpa and Ruth would come to our house to visit for two or three hours. I remember once they brought some fresh pineapple which we prepared and then ate as we sat around the table and visited. Grandpa stopped by our home east of Marlow for a visit quite often. I know he loved us and was concerned for our welfare. Looking back, it seems there was an atmosphere of sadness surrounding our relationship in that he didn't have his family together, much due to his own doing. Yet he was still struggling, although he had practically given up the hope that they still cared for him. Grandpa was a beaten man. His family had come apart, his dreams of prosperity and success were gone; and since my mother was the only one near, he kept in touch. In later years my Mother's bitterness about Grandma leaving him was a sorrow, I think, because he was robbed of a stable family which was together. The struggle had been too much for a little Arkansas boy without the right life skills.c problem which caused him to be in the hospital two weeks. He actually died of pneumonia as a result of being bedfast. I remember Mama being at the hospital a lot during that time. The Allen family sentiment of bewilderment and probably disgust at times toward Grandpa's antics caused a little resentment I'm sure; but Danny Goggin told me Grandma told him she loved Easy Allen a lot, even until she died, and that it had been a mistake to leave him and go to Arizona. He was a dreamer, thinker, schemer, and also a doer. He was quite a man with great ideas, but he didn't take care of his wife and family.use she and Easy were not getting along, but because she loved being with people to help take care of the children. Not to mislead you, I must add that my mother loved her mother for her kind ,sweet, pure heart. Had it not been for Stella Maud, the family would not be as close as they are, and possess the Christian principles they do. The Allen cemetary plot at Marlow has E.Z. and Maud, Ira, and Martha and Babe Robertson buried there. My Dad, Babe, got along very well with Easy, and he loved Maud Allen a lot.w point. Other views will be different, I'm sure.'t his Johnson ancestors were Swedish. [Charlotte Allen Cosby and Lanier Allen have since proven that there is no Johnson ancestry in this line, but Bowling ancestry, instead. The Bowling's, Cornett's and Johnson's were a tight community in Laurel Co., KY., interacting in confusing ways]. EZ refused to talk about George Cornett. Ezekial was inordinately proud of his marriage certificate, and once got very upset when in was misplaced for 3 days. Ezekial also claimed to have been one of Teddy Roosevelt's 'Rough Riders'. [Cuba--Spanish American War].e Lewis Bowling--a train master out of St. Louis.mething---, and after waiting a long time, received a negative reply. After that, he apparently did not try again to pursue the relationship. [see note -3- above].
