He probably came here as a servant, of the Jesuits, in 1643. Two pieces of evidence exists in the religious registries, of Trois-Rivieres. On July 16, 1643, Mathurin Landry appeared as godfather to Mathurin Pouaouagan, when Father Jean de Brebeuf administered baptism to the Amerindian. We know that, the famous missionary lived in the Quebec region, from the autumn of 1641 to September 17, 1644. Then, on July 29, 1643, Mathurin Landry became the godfather of another little Amerindian, Mathurin, the son of Jean Pachirinich and Francoise Pakintemdamages. Paul Lejune, S.J., one of the founders of the mission at Trois-Rivieres, poured the baptismal water, on the forehead of the little Indian child. Mathurin Landry returned to France, perhaps in the autumn of 1643. His son, Guillaume, would replace him ten years later. This biography was taken from "Our French-Canadian Ancestors: by Thomas J.
