More sad news to report; Thelma Alwood died this last Tuesday, Nov 26th. Her funeral service is 2:00 pm Dec 7th at Westford Funeral Home, 1301 Broadway | Bellingham WA 98225.

"Thelma J. Alwood 12/22/1917 ~ 11/26/2013 Thelma Alwood, age 95 of Bellingham, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2013 at Lynden Manor. She was born December 22, 1917 in Kankakee, IL to Walter and Carrie McElroy. She was raised on a farm in Kankakee and lived in Colfax, ND,Rimby, Alberta, and Bellingham. She married Arthur Alwood on May 16, 1942. After Arthur died February 23, 1980, she married his brother Homer Alwood on August 16, 1985. Homer died December 8, 2006. While raising two boys, Thelma graduatedfrom Bellingham High School and worked for years as a legal secretary. She enjoyed cooking and hosting friends and family. Thelma was very loyal to her family and loved to sit and talk. She was a feisty little Irish redhead and she willbe dearly missed. Thelma lived the last five years at Lynden Manor. She is survived by her sons Darrell Alwood (Sherrie Brown) and Duane Alwood, step-daughters Virginia (Ron) Leitner and Sharon Chacksfield, grandsons John (Carol) Alwoodand Mark (Chihiro) Alwood, step-grandchildren Chris Leitner, Zoe Kapan and Shane Martin, great-grandchildren Lillian, Cameron, Trinity and Luke, and many loving family and friends. A Celebration of Thelma's life will be held at WestfordFuneral Home on Saturday, December 7th at 2 PM with a reception following. Memorials may be made to Birchwood Presbyterian."
