Eileen was born in 1925 and was married to Jim Alwood who is the son of Will Alwood, my grandfather. (David William Alwood) Eileen's maiden name was Kerr. Uncle Jim lives in Hoquiam and is my Mom's (Helen) brother.

Eileen has been suffering from strokes for some time.

I hope this makes sense. Thanks again

Patti

Some more sad news. You may have been in touch with other Alwood's but I thought you may like to know that Auntie Eileen passed away this afternoon about 2:30 at the Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam. David and Matt and Uncle Jim werewith her. The family will be making arrangements.

Would you mind passing on the news with our Alwood email list?

We had Thanksgiving with Dolores, Greg and Family, Colleen and Family and Joan and my Mom. David and Matt and Uncle Jim had planned to come but the Care Center called them this morning.

We are losing our older generation.

Thank you Lee.

Patti"

"Obituaries ... Eileen Constance Alwood (February 20, 1925 - November 28, 2013) ... Eileen C. Alwood, 1925 – 2013

On November 28, 2013, God called his beloved daughter, Eileen Constance Alwood, a devoted Catholic, home to his heavenly kingdom after a series of devastating strokes and pneumonia. Born February 20, 1925 to Matthew Merrick Kerr and EllaMurphy-Kerr, she was the youngest of five children: Charles, Walt, Bob and Delores. Her parents, brothers and a daughter; Mary Eileen Alwood-Siler all preceded her in death, but is survived by her husband, Jim, her daughter, Anne; hersons, Matthew and David, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand and great grand children.

Attended elementary school at “The Little Brady School House”, Eileen graduated from Montesano High School in 1942; she attended Grays Harbor Business College and was hired by Grays Harbor Pulp and Paper as a stenographer from 1943 to1956.

She met her “husband to be” in 1944, while Jim was home on leave from the U.S. Army Air Corp and exchanged letters until the end of WWII. They were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on April 24, 1946, and recently celebrated their67th wedding anniversary.

Desirous of raising a family but incapable of baring children, Jim and Eileen registered with Catholic Adoptive Services of Seattle, welcoming David in 1956 and Matthew in 1957.

Jim accepted a position with the CAA, (currently FAA) in 1958, packing Eileen and the boys off to Farewell Alaska, working as an air traffic controller at an isolated flight station for 1½ years, until transferring to Woody Island (acrossfrom Kodiak) for another 1½ years, then bid and accepted a position at Hoquiam’s Bowerman Field in 1961.

Upon returning to their roots, the family adopted two more children, Mary in 1962 and Anne in 1963. Eileen remained a homemaker until the children graduated from high school, and then accepted a stenographer position with Grays Harbor PUDin 1981 and she retired in October 1987 to spend time with Jim.

Eileen loved forging nature trails behind the family home, baking world-class cinnamon rolls with Jim, drinking coffee with Delores, writing, visiting the sick, giving to charities, delivering communion to shut-in parishioners andinvolvement in her beloved Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church.

The family wishes to thank the Hoquiam Fire Department, doctors and staff at GH Community Hospital and those of Pacific Care and Rehabilitation for their extraordinary efforts.
