"Aileen Dorenbush, 85 Aileen Dorenbush, age 85 of Lakota died Sunday, September 11, 2005 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 13 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota with Pastor Marino Melstad. Burial will be at St. PaulLutheran Cemetery in Lakota. [The cemetery is actually located outside the Lakota village limits in Lincoln Twp.]

Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota and one hour before the service.

Velma Aileen Dorenbush, daughter of Fred and Emma (Christ) Mabus, was born on November 1, 1919 on the home farm near Lakota, Iowa. She was a lifelong resident of Lakota. She spent some winter's in Sun City, Arizona and some summers atthe lake in Henning, Minnesota, but she always considered Lakota home.

Aileen married John V. Dorenbush on Columbus Day, October 12, 1940. They were married 54 years before he passed away on February 15, 1995. They were blessed with 3 children: Dean, Dwight, and Faye.

Aileen enjoyed being a housewife on the farm. She was an excellent seamstress - making coats, formal gowns and draperies. Her baked goods were the very best! Everyone wanted her raised doughnuts and homemade bread th the St. PaulLutheran bake sales. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Aileen also enjoyed gardening, growing gorgeous flowers, and belonged to the Lakota Garden Club and planted many petunias in the Highway 9 median turning intotown.

During the Vietnam War, Aileen wa a church correspondent, she regularly typed a personal letter to all serviceman [sic] from Lakota.

Aileen passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2005 at her home with her family near after a long battle with cancer.

Aileen leaves behind her son, Dwight and his wife, Donna, of Lakota; her daughter, Faye McFarland of Prescott, Arizona; and her grandchildren: Jill Dorenbush, Jeff Dorenbush, FranK McFarland and Marty Saxton.

She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Emma Mabus, her husband, John, and infant son, Dean.
