Evelyn Buse, 89, died Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD.

Evelyn Ruth Poppens was born on March 10, 1926 on a farm seven miles north of Lennox, SD, the daughter of Folkert H. and Matilda Grace (Mundhenke) Poppens. She attended Schoffelman District 63 rural school and graduated from Lennox High School in 1944. She earned her teaching certificate from Eastern State Teachers College, Madison and Sioux Falls College. For seven years she taught in Lincoln County rural schools, of which five years were spent at Berens School, District 58.

She married Wilmer Buse on June 8, 1951 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Lennox, the Rev. Henry Schoon officiating.

Five children were born to this union. They farmed on their dairy and grain farm southwest of Lennox, retiring from farming in 1981, but continued living on the same place until 1997 when they moved to Lennox. Wilmer died on April 23, 2009.

Evelyn continued to live in Lennox until moving to Trail Ridge Retirement Community. Evelyn was an active and faithful member of Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible Camp counselor, WIC member, women's work group chairman. She served as an officer for the High School Band Parents Association and the Lennox PTA. She was always interested in her children's education and their school and church activities.

Evelyn loved to camp and travel. She enjoyed trips with her family to the east coast, west coast, many states in between and Canada. When her children were grown Evelyn and Wilmer continued traveling in the U.S. and took tours to Europe, Jamaica, Hawaii and Alaska. Evelyn also enjoyed helping with the dairy operation, cooking, gardening and baby sitting grandchildren.

Beside her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother Donald Poppens.

Grateful for having shared her life are five children: Gloria (Mark) St. Clair, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Galyn (Rachel) Buse, Tea, Glenn (Cheryl) Buse, rural Lennox, Gary (DeeAnna) Buse, rural Lennox and Jeffrey (Jane) Buse, rural Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren: Kayla (fiancé Gregory Miser) St. Clair, Rachel (Cory) Flaskey, Ashley Buse, Travis Buse, Ryan (fiancé Leah Rasmussen) Buse, David Buse, Erin Buse, Chad Buse and Emily Buse; Three great-grandchildren: Allen, Chase and Zayne: siblings: Edwin Poppens, Tea, Lenora Mulder, Sheldon, IA and Arlene Roozenboom, Sioux Falls, plus nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
