Text of article, possibly a city history, provenance unknown:

"Severt N. Sjovangen and his wife Carrie sold their farm south of Kanawha in order to but the meat market which he ran until October 1909. The family lived over the store along with ther twelve year old nephew, Helmer Bjelland of Eagle Grove, who did odd jobs around the store. Severt hired a butcher to run the slaughter house north of town. Behind the market was an ice house owned and operated by Sjovangen. Many hours were spent in the wintertime, cutting and hauling ice from West Lake, hauling sawdust from the mill at Goodell and then storing the ice insulated by the sawdust in this large barn. Children loved to play there by grabbing the ice tongs hanging from the ceiling rafters on a rope and pully, swinging out from the top of the ice pile and jumping into the loose sawdust in front of the door. Sjovangen had a gasoline lighting system installed in the meat market sometime before he sold it to the Olsons in October. Severt worked after this as a carpenter and also was an active salesman for the new 'Economy Iceless Refrigerator' which was a dumb waiter arrangement that had chambers which lowered food into the cellar or into a hole in the ground to keep it cool. It advertised cost was forty-eight dollars."
