RETIRED LE MARS FUNERAL DIRECTOR DIES AT AGE 91

LE MARS, Iowa - Lloyd E. Mauer, a retired Le Mars funeral director, died Thursday in a nursing home at Le Mars. He was 91.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church at Le Mars. The Rev. Leonard Root will officiate. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Mauer Funeral Home.

Mr. Mauer was born March 3, 1889, at Le Mars and was a lifelong Le Mars resident. He was a funeral director and owned and operated a furniture store for 50 years, retiring in 1958.

He married Martha Beely Dec. 19, 1908, at LeMars. She died in 1923.

He married Minnie Kammerer March 11, 1924, at LeMars. She died in 1965.

Mr. Mauer was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, The York Rite, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City, the Order of the Eastern Star, Lions Club and Elks Club.

He was a former member of the school board, the LeMars City Council, the Plymouth County Fair Board and the Planning and Zoning Commission. He was parade marshal for the LeMars Centennial parade.

Survivors include a son, Robert of Le Mars; six daughters, Mrs. Bard (Eloise) Meadows, of American Falls, Idaho, Miss Jane Mauer and Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) Tammes, both of LeMars, Mrs. Emory (Helen) Saienga of Hinton, Mrs. Karl (Ruth) Schultz of Sioux City and Mrs. Kindall (Carol) Strope of Boise, Idaho; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
