Stonington was first settled as Pawcatuck in 1649. The Pequot Indians inhabited the area. Nathaniel married Hannah Denison in 1659 in Stonington, Connecticut Colony. They were the parents of Anna, Sarah, Nathaniel, Bridget, Hannah, Samuel, Margaret and Mary; all were born in Stonington.
