Stonington was first settled as Pawcatuck in 1649. The Pequot Indians inhabited the area. Anderson often just refers to the place as Stonington, while Amos S. Chesebrough refers to Pawcatuck as Pequot. Wequetequock was adjacent to Pawcatuck on the Long Island Sound. Nathaniel married Hannah Denison in 1659 in Stonington, Connecticut Colony. They were the parents of Anna, Sarah, Nathaniel, Bridget, Hannah, Samuel, Margaret and Mary; all were born in Stonington.
