SIBLEY— Harold Janssen, age 81, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley.

There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, with the Rev. Terry Simm officiating.

Graveside service will be noon Monday, Jan. 7, at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, prior to the memorial service.

Visitation with family present will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley.

Viewing of Harold Janssen will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

The Andringa Funeral Home of Sibley is in charge of arrangements for Harold Janssen.

Harold George Janssen was born on May 8, 1937, on the family homestead near Sibley, IA. He was the son of Herman and Grace (Steen) Janssen. He grew up on the farm, attended country school and graduated from Sibley High School in 1955. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Alaska. After serving he returned home to farm.

Harold was united in marriage to his first wife, Jeannine Samuelson, on July 11, 1992. Jeannine passed in December of 2004. Years later Harold was reintroduced with Ruby Vreeman and after a yearlong courtship, they were united in marriage on Dec. 26, 2009.

Harold loved his tractors and farming. He farmed on the Janssen Century Farm all his life. He also enjoyed working on small engines. Sunday evenings were a special time spent with family at the farm. He enjoyed having the family together. He was a lifelong faithful attendee of the First Presbyterian Church of Sibley. Harold touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity, and love of life. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit.

Harold passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Sibley Specialty Care. Harold will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruby and children, Rich and Rhonda Van Klompenburg (Alton, IA), Jerry and Lois Vreeman (Sheldon, IA), Keith and Toni Vreeman (Edgerton, MN), and Craig and Connie Vreeman (Edgerton, MN). Harold will also be fondly remembered by his sister Frances Wills (Sibley, IA); 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and extended family.
