It is my hypothesis George is an anglicazation of Harm's German middle name, Geerds. Usual naming customs in Ostfriesland at that time would assign the father's given name (with a sex diminuitive ending) to all of his offspring, male & female. Harm's father is Geerd Jans Schipper, ergo, the son would be Harm Geerds Schipper. - D. A. Navorska - xxviii Nov MMXXII - in proximo Grove, OK.
