Peter and his wife Gretje came to the United States in 1868. They settled in Freeport, Illinois, and lived there until 1879. They moved to Grundy County, Iowa, and lived near Sibley and Allendorf area for the remainder of their lives.

Peter's parents where Elso Davids and Lena Frey. They both were born in Germany (Prussia) around 1810. Five of their children came to the United States: Peter in 1868, David in 1865, Gretie 1890, Harm in 1890 and Minnie sometime between 1881-1885.
