"Boom, John - Nora Schuldt
John was the son of early pioneers, Tjark and Ellanora Meyers Boom, and married a young lady who came to George to teach school. She also served as a principal in the school at one time. His wife was Nora Schuldt and she came from a family of ministers and Christian workers. John farmed his father's farm and toda, son-in-law, Richard Akkerman and his wife Mary (Boom), are still farming the homestead. It has been in the family well over 100 years. Both John and Nora were long time workers in the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
The Boom children are Robert (died very young), Mary (m. Richard Akkerman), Lonnelle (married Merle Lenderts) and Donald (married Myrna Johnson). Donald is deceased.
One note of interest to add is that Nora's sister, Flora came to George and she eventually married Rev. Percy Bruns, son of Jacob and Minnie Klinkenborg Bruns. They served a number of Baptist churches.
Another sister of Nora's, Viola Winn, and husband served before World War II as missionaries in the Philippines. They were unable to get away when war broke out and her husband was taken as a Japanese prisioner and sent to Japan for the duration of the war. General MacArthur sent a special submarine that managed to pick up the wife and children without detection.
Mary said she visited her grandfather Rev. Schuld when he was serving a parish in Louisana and they went by train to see the family.
