SERVICES HELD FOR MERLE SUTHERLAND SR.
Merle H. Sutherland, 72, passed away Wednesday evening October 20 at the Veterans Hospital at Ann Arbor about five hours after admittance, and after a long illness. A native of Clinton county, he was the son of Milo and Alma Sutherland and had been a resident of Lake Odessa about 40 years. He married Myrtle Schlappi in 1925 and she passed away April 1, 1950. Merle was a World War veteran and a member of the Lake Odessa F&AM and IOOF lodges.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Alma) Kruger of Woodland and Mrs. Lee (Zondra) Mikulan of Clinton, Mich., four sons, Merle Jr. and Milo of Lake Odessa, and Leon and John of Woodland; a sister Mrs. Claud (Harriet) Haney of Lake Odessa and a brother Vere of New Port Rickey, Florida.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at 1:30 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel.
Committal services at Lakeside cemetery were under the auspices of the LaVerne Demaray Post No. 112 American Legion. Rev. Vernon Macy officiated.
