George R. Griebel, son of Lewis and Abbie Griebel, born Aug. 23, 1882 on a farm near Monroe. He went to his heavenly reward on Apr. 14, 1960, having reached the age of 77 years, 7 months and 21 days.

On Feb. 6, 1902 he was united in marriage to Hilka Klinger.

His parents moving to Monroe, he lived on this farm for 64 years where he was born.

They farmed there for 45 years; then they moved to the Iwerks farm near by, living there for 5 years. For the remainder of his life they move to their home in Monroe, where he lived until his death.

He was a faithful and active member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and held a number of official responsibilities in the church.

His health began to fail in the summer of 1959. He was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 1, 1959. He underwent surgery on Dec. 4th from which he never really recovered.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Hilka, six daughters, and one son; Mattie, Mrs. Casper Holmberg, Parker; Christena, Mrs. Boekhoff, Sioux Falls; Abbie, Mrs. Herman Wieman, Monroe; Louise, Mrs. Bert A. Langerock, Monroe; Georgiana, Mrs. Henry Dykstra, Monroe; Lewis of Monroe; Leora, Mrs. Merrill Marsh, Parker, and their husbands and wives. 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William and Alex of Monroe, and a sister Carrie, Mrs. Freeman of Alpena.
