Shirley Ann Birger Wieman Birth 18 Sep 1947 Lynch, Boyd County, Nebraska, USA Death 28 Dec 2020 (aged 73) Burial Woodlawn Cemetery Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota, USA Plot Section Walnut - Plot 163 Memorial ID 220390818

After a year long battle with colon cancer, Shirley Ann Wieman went to be in the loving arms of Jesus on December 28, 2020. Shirley was born on September 18, 1947 in Lynch, Nebraska to John and Emma (Dolesji) Birger of Fairfax, SD. She grew up on a farm about 2 miles east of Fairfax. Shirley graduated as Co-Valedictorian from Fairfax High School in May of 1965. After high school, she attended SDSU and Nettleton Business School.

On July 8, 1967, Shirley met Duane Wert Wieman in Sioux Falls. They were married on November 30, 1968 at the First Church of God in Marion, SD. To this union they welcomed two children; Lara Leigh (Milton) Early on May 24 1975; and Lamont Loren Wieman on March 8, 1978.

Shirley was a mother, homemaker, and farmer's wife. She loved to cook, garden, sew, and do crafts. She had a green thumb and grew huge rose bushes yearly. She worked various office jobs here and there before realizing her dream to obtain a Bachelor's Degree from Bellevue University in 2006. She went on to earn a Masters Degree, also from Bellevue University, in 2008. After earning both degrees, Shirley was a substitute teacher for 10 years.

One of the defining moments of Shirley's life was accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior while watching a Billy Graham crusade on TV in 1970. She devoted her life to Christ, and enjoyed various Bible Studies and prayer groups. She was a long time member of The SD Women's Christian Temperance Union. She served as president 1990-1996. She attended Living Hope Community Church in Tea, SD. She loved her church family and Pastor Wayne Reed and his wife Deb. They provided much appreciated prayer and support to her. She participated in a jail ministry for a couple of years and more recently volunteered for Americans for Prosperity.

The crown treasure of Shirley's life were her two grandsons: Mason Wieman, September 21, 2001; and Logan Wieman, March 28, 2003. These two boys were the apples of her eye and gave Shirley many years of joy and sweet memories.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband: Duane, who went home on March 14, 2001. She is survived by her children who loved her very much, daughter and son-in-law: Lara and Milton Early; son: Lamont Wieman; grandsons: Mason and Logan Wieman; brothers and sisters-in-law: Marlo and Julaine Wieman, and Burdette and Darla Tieszen. She treasured each of her nieces, nephew and all of their children. She reconnected with two of her first cousins later in life: Doug Warejcka and Carol Turnovec. She enjoyed spending time with them and reconnecting with other cousins she met along the way.

Donations can be made to the Union Gospel Mission and the Bishop Dudley House.

Visitation will be Monday, January 4, 2021 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a private family committal service at Woodlawn Cemetery.
