Spencer Daily Reprter 2 Apr 1996

Estella Kohn, 93, died Sunday, March 31, 1996.

Funeral services will be today at 4 p.m. at Warner Chapel, Spencer, with the Rev. Gordon Watson officiating.

Casket bearers will be members of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Honorary casket bearers will be Don Sullivan, Raymond Kruse, John Rozendaal, Loren Sullivan, Dale Davis, Stanley Dean and Jay Hoogeveen.

Eastern Star Service will be conducted by Evening Shade Lodge #116 O.E.S.

Burial will be at North Lawn Memorial Park, Spencer, with the Warner Funeral Home of Spencer in charge of arrangements.

Estella Ella Kohn, the daughter of Homer and Katie Lee Morris Davis was born Aug. 7, 1902, in Clay County. Her childhood years were spent on a farm near Spencer, where she received her education at rural schools. She later received her teaching certificate and graduated from Spencer High School. Following her eduction, she taught in rural schools.

She married Wesley Frank Kohn on Aug. 10, 1921, in Spencer. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm north of Spencer until 1956, when they moved to Spencer. She worked for Younkers for 20 years.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Clay County Farm Bureau, Meadow Township Progressive Club, and Methodist Women Circles. She was a 4-H leader.

Mrs. Kohn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant son.

She is survived by three daughters: J. Beverly Beving and her husband, Dick, of Milford; Phyllis Heikens of Spencer; and Mariel Oftelie and her husband, Phil, of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren."
