Marcus H. Johns, the son of Roy and Julia Heetland Johns, was born October 3, 1909. in Ackley, Iowa. He attended country school in the Ackley, Iowa, area and graduated from Ackley High School in 1927. For the next several years, he farmed with his father and brother in the Ackley AREA.

On October 4, 1941, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Mescher in Butte, Nebraska. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Ackley AREA for 12 years until 1954, when they moved to Emery, South Dakota, where he learned the plumbing business. On December 28. 1954, they moved to Paullina where he established the Johns' Plumbing & Heating, which he operated until his semi-retirement in 1975. For several years after his retirement, he was still involved in the plumbing business.

He passed away at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar on Wednesday, December 21, 1994, reaching the age of 85 years, 2 months and 18 days. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina.

Marcus leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Gertrude of Paullina; his sons, Harold and his wife, Debbie Johns of Webster City, Iowa; Dale Johns of Rossie, Iowa; Donald and his wife, Kathryn Johns of Cataldo, Idaho; and Vernon Johns and his wife, Terri Christiansen of Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild; one brother, William Johns of Waterloo, Iowa, also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Frederick and one sister, Marion.

Funeral services for Marcus H. Johns were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. December 24, 1994, at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Freeman officiating The casket bearers were Dave Platt, Wally Simm, Bob Engel, Joe Innis, Philip Simm and Jon Miller Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa, under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina.
