"George Vernon Burma, resident of Claremore, passed from this life on Friday, May 12, 2017 at his home. He was 86 years of age. George was born August 17, 1930 at Avon, South Dakota to Vert and Reka (Weeldreyer) Burma. He was raised and received his education there. George was united in marriage on July 15, 1951 to Alyce C. Hawkey at Springfield, SD. They made their home there until February of 1952 when George was inducted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge, he returned to the family farm in South Dakota before he and Alyce moved to Bartlesville, OK. They later relocated to Tulsa and in 1968, made the move to Claremore, OK. George was an independent life insurance agent for 40 years, and was a partner in the Burma & Henzel Insurance Agency. He was a member of the Hilldale Baptist Church of Claremore and was active with the Gideon's International. George was an outdoorsman who enjoyed farming, and cattle ranching; as well as pheasant hunting and in earlier years playing golf.

Those that survive include his wife of 65 years – Alyce; children Deborah Mullikin and husband John of Broken Arrow, OK, George D. Burma and wife Conni of Claremore, OK and Doyle A. Burma and wife Cynthia also of Claremore. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a brother Earl Burma of Avon, SD and a sister Eunice Hathaway of Tulsa, OK. George was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leo Burma, sister Joan Knoll and a grandson Christopher George Burma.

Visitation for George will be Monday, May 15, 2017 from 4pm – 8pm at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. There will be a private family committal at Memorial Park Lakeview Mausoleum in Tulsa on Tuesday, followed by a 2:30 pm Memorial service at Hilldale Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Skaggs officiating. Those that would like to honor George's memory may do so by giving to either: Gideon's International, PO Box 1022, Owasso, OK 74055 or to Hilldale Baptist Church, Claremore, OK. The family entrusted Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso with the arrangements. www.moweryfs.com"
