Ernest Leitner, age 97, of Belle Fourche, died Sunday, January 26th, 2014 at the Crook County Long Term Care Center in Sundance, WY.

The memorial service will be held 10:30am Friday, January 31st, 2014 at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche.

There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery, in Belle Fourche.

Funeral arrangements are with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.

Ernest William Leitner was born January 13, 1917 in Belle Fourche. He was the son of John and Pearl (Hunnicutt) Leitner. Ernest grew up on the family ranch located west of Belle Fourche. In December of 1941 he was united in marriage to Veryl Heetland in Broadus, Montana. Following their marriage Ernest and Veryl lived at the ranch where Ernest worked until he reached the age of 92.

Ernest was the last surviving member of the "3 V Cowboys" that worked on the 3 V Ranch. He loved the ranch life, and was a smart cattleman. He raised horses, and loved the fresh air of the outdoors. He also had a great sense of humor, and was a good husband and father.

Ernest is survived by his son, Kendall Leitner of Belle Fourche; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and twin sisters, Ruth Patton and LaRue Ice.
