"Raymond H. Heetland, Jr. October 07, 1953 - April 08, 2019

Raymond "Ray" Harold Heetland, Jr., passed away peacefully on April 8, 2019. He was 65 years old.

The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 South Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD. A lunch will immediately follow with the family present.

Ray was born on October 7, 1953, to Raymond, Sr., and Florence (Glade) Heetland in Hartley, IA. The youngest of five children, Ray grew up in northwest Iowa and attended Sheldon High School, where he was a talented athlete and excelled in wrestling and football. He graduated in 1971, then attended the University of South Dakota, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in accounting in 1975. He worked as a Certified Public Accountant for 40+ years, with over 30 years at Henry Scholten & Company and Eide Bailly in Sioux Falls, SD. He then semiretired and went into private practice.

On December 28, 1973, Ray married his former spouse, Rebecca Luinstra, in May City, IA. They welcomed home their son, Josh, by way of adoption in August 1983, and resided in Sioux Falls, SD. He was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church and served as an elder and treasurer for many years.

In his free time, Ray enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking trips to the Sturgis Bike Rally with his friends. He also liked hunting and fishing and made countless fishing trips to Battle Lake, MN, and Canada with his close group of friends, as well as to the Missouri River with his son and granddaughter, Gracelyn. He also spent many of his weekends with friends and family in Okoboji, IA.

Ray loved selflessly and was always there to help a friend in need. He was an attentive and caring father and doting grandfather, who adored his granddaughter and made every effort to attend all of her soccer practices. He made it a priority to spend time with family, and often treated his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter to lunch. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and generosity. His presence will be greatly missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Joshua (Julie), Sioux Falls, SD; granddaughter, Gracelyn; sister, Colleen Ferns, Saint Cloud, MN; sister, Pat Rose (Don Kussman), Saint Cloud, MN; sister-in-law, Bonnie Heetland, Cotopaxi, CO; and sister-in-law, Barb Heetland, Okoboji, IA.
