Lawrence Viet, 83, of Marion, died Feb 5, 2015.
Lawrence was born on Nov. 13, 1931 in Monroe to Peter and Elstiena Viet and was baptized as an infant.
On Nov. 28, 1952, he married LaVonne Riekena at the First Reformed Church in Monroe. They were married for 62 years.
Lawrence graduated from Monroe High school and then left to serve two years in the Armed Forces in El Paso, Texas. As Corporal in the U.S. Army, he was trained as a Radar Repair Technician specialist.
Lawrence and LaVonne attended the First reformed Church in Monroe where Lawrence held the position of Deacon for six years and also served as treasurer. He was also active in serving as Adjutant for the local American Legion for several years. Lawrence enjoyed woodworking as well as building, restoring and collecting clocks.
Survivors include his wife, LaVonne; three children: daughters Deborah (Steve) Satterfield of Albany, Ga., Barbara (late Rocky) Wentzel of Sioux Falls; and his son, David (Karen) Viet of Marion. He had nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Tillena Carlson and Delores Radel.
Funeral services were held Feb. 9 at First Reformed Church of Monroe. Interment in the Monroe Cemetery.
