Marv Hamilton (1929-2010)

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 Monday, March 29th at the Burlington Greenhills Cemetery on Gardner Rd. at the Urn Garden.

Marv Hamilton was a resident of the Skagit Valley up until 1986, when he retired after selling his family owned and operated business, Cycle Circle, in Burlington.

The family has chosen family friend, Nick Harris, Assistant Pastor with His Place Church in Burlington, to lead the tribute.

Marv Hamilton leaves his wife of 55 years, Dawna Hamilton; two children, daughter, Vickie Hamilton Stanfield and son Richard J. Hamilton; his brother, Earl Hanson and Ronald Soini, both of Skagit Valley; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren.

Marv was born to Raymond Hamilton and Esther Marshall on June 17, 1929 on Bainbridge Island, Washington. He was the last child to be delivered by his Aunt Mary Smith Pettett, the first midwife in the Sequim Dungeness Valley, who upon her death was featured in the Seattle PI as the woman with the largest number of living relatives in Washington. A conservative estimate of the number of children she had delivered into this world has been set at many hundreds.

Marv's family later moved to Conway to join other family, Ira & Eva Marshall and Jalmer & Esther Hanson, in running the family dairy and agriculture farm. Marv attended school in Conway and Mount Vernon and joined the United States Air Force in 1950.

He was stationed in Willow, Alaska & Agland Air Force Base in Florida where he met Larona Dawn Dotson, whom he married on October 3, 1954, just one day after he was discharged. The couple then returned to the Skagit Valley where they made their home, raised their two children and were local business owners from 1955 - 1986.

The couple's first business, established in 1955 through 1964, was the Mt. Vernon Yellow Cab Company. Shortly after, they added the M&M Pawn Shop. While running both businesses they became motorcycle dealers, introducing Bridgestone Motorcycles to Skagit County, on Pine Street, Mt. Vernon.

The success of all three businesses required they relocate to a bigger facility in 1966, which was the original 24 Flavors Ice Cream building in Mt. Vernon and the name Cycle Circle was born. They remained in that location until 1971, when the Hamilton's purchased the rural property at 1268 S. Burlington Blvd., Burlington where the Hamilton's built a new structure large enough to offer several makes and models of motorcycles, though primarily Kawasaki. The Hamilton's family owned and operated Cycle Circle was one of the first Kawasaki dealerships in the state of Washington.

In 1986, the Hamilton's sold the majority of their Burlington property but retained ownership of the Cycle Circle building and lot which is currently leased commercially by Anderson Fireplace Company across from the Cascade Mall.

In retirement, Marv and Dawna enjoyed more time to visit new places while traveling in their RV and built upon their lasting memories together.

They built their final home together, on a site in sunny Surprise, Arizona, where they had access to endless activities, dear friends and spent a lot of time together enjoying the nature and wildlife that surrounded their home, where his wife, Dawna, still resides.

The family wishes to thank the special team from Hospice of Arizona that assisted in making Marv's last year at home one of peace and comfort.

In lieu flowers, it was Marv's wish that donations be made in his memory to The American Hospice Foundation, 2120 "L" Street NW, Ste 200, Washington D.C. 20037.
