In January 1920 Peter Tuinstra (16 years old, born in Illinois, truck farm hand), his father Henry Tuinstra (43, Holland, immigrated in 1893, truck gardener), mother Jennie (36, Illinois), siblings George (17, Illinois, truck farm hand), Grace (13, Illinois), Lillian (11, Illinois), Freddie (11, Illinois), Wiebe (8, Illinois), Ricka (6, Illinois), Henry (4, Illinois), Boe (1, Michigan) and his maternal grandfather George Teninga (69, Holland, immigrated in 1880, widower) were living on a rented farm at tract A E 21 and 2134 W 79th Street in the southern part of Chicago, Ward 32, Cook County, Illinois.

On February 15, 1928 farmer Peter Tuinstra, son of Henry Tuinstra and Jennie Teninga, residing in Hopkins, Allegan County, in the western part of Michigan married in Allegan County, Michigan at the age of 24 years the five years younger Lucille DeMann, born in Kellogville, Kent County, south of Grand Rapids, Michigan and residing in Martin, Michigan, daughter of Peter DeMann and Anna Bishop.

In July 1928, when their first child, Harold was born, Peter Tuinstra and Lucille De Mann lived in Hopkins Township, established in December 1852 and located in the northeastern portion of Allegan County, in the western part of Michigan. The Township covers approximately thirtysix square miles of area and is primarily an agricultural community.

In April 1930 Peter Tuinstra (26 years old, truck farmer), his wife Lucyla (21), and their son Herald H (1 y, 8 months) were living in Watson Township, Allegan County, Michigan. Next door lived his father Henry Tuinstra (53, a truck farmer too) with his wife Jennie and eight children.

Peter Tuinstra's family couldn't be found in the US Census 1940, especially not in Martin Township, Allegan County, where they lived then.

Peter died in March 1988 at the age of 84 years in Grand Rapids, but resided then in Martin, Allegan County, Michigan.

Peter Tuinstra, of Martin, passed away March 6, 1988 in Grand Rapids. Mr. Tuinstra was born December 2, 1903 in Chicago, the son of Henry and Jennie Tuinstra. He was a member of the East Martin Christian Reformed Church and had retired from General Motors in Grand Rapids in 1966. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Lucille; four children and their spouses, Harold Henry and Florence Tuinstra of Martin, Dorothy and Robert Helmholdt, Arlene and Ted Wustman, all of Cutler ville, Larry Peter and Phyllis Tuinstra of Shelbyville; eight brothers and sisters, Henry Tuinstra of Martin, Fred Tuinstra of Kalamazoo, Lillian Lodenstein and Reka Medendorp both of Wayland, Bert Tuinstra of Shelbyville, Bertha Lynema of Martin, Richard Tuinstra of Zeeland, Hilbert Tunistra of Byron Center; 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Marshall-Gren Chapel after 7 pm today and all day Tuesday. Funeral Services will be held at the East Martin Christian Reformed Church Wednesday afternoon 1:30, Rev. Harlan Roelofs officiating. Burial in East Martin Cemetery. Memorial gifts to the East Martin Christian School.

Fifty-nine years of wedded life well be observed on Feb. 15 by Peter and Lucille Tuinstra, residents of both Martin and Bradenton, Fla. The occasion will be celebrated with both a card shower and with a family dinner in april. The Tuinstras' children are Harold and Florence Tuinstra, Robert and Dorothy Helmholdt, Ted and Arlene Wustman, and Lawrence and Phyllis Tuinstra. They have 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.>
