Behrend [Ben] Schrick -- was born in Beerta, Netherlands, in 1873. Before he was sixteen years of age both of his parents had died. At that time an older brother who had already come to America, was living in Holland, Iowa, so the sixteen year old boy, came alone to America to join his brother. He stayed there for ten years and in 1899 came to Lyon County with the Helmer Kruse family.

Behrend married Martha Kruse, a daughter of Helmer in"

"1900. He farmed one mile north and two and one-fourth miles east of George, renting the land at first, and a few years later purchasing it for himself. It is interesting to note that the farm has been in the Schrick family ever since Behrend purchased it. After Behrend, his son Richard lived on it, and now Dennis Schrick is farming the place.
