Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Chancellor Reformed Church for Ethel Neeman who, following a short illness, died at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center on Saturday morning, Oct. 22, 2005. She attained the age of 87 years, three months and five days.
Pallbearers were Russell Smith, Donald Arnes, Leonard Rhoades, Kerwin Neeman, Earl Girton, and Scott Timmerman.
Ethel Neeman was born on a farm north of Lennox on Aug. 17, 1918, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Luden) Harms. She grew up there, attending rural and later public school.
On Dec. 18, 1940 she was united in marriage to Cornelius Neeman in Sioux Falls.
Following their marriage they farmed one mile south of Chancellor for 40 years. They retired from farming and moved into Chancellor in 1980. Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1991, ending a marriage of over 50 years. She continued to live in Chancellor and then moved to Tea in 2002 where she had since lived.
Ethel had been a cook at the cafe in Chancellor from 1958 to 1964 and later cooked at a truck stop near Lennox. She then was employed as a nurses aide at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center for 20 years until her retirement.
Ethel was a member of Chancellor Reformed Church and more recently was a member of the 55 and Over Club in Tea.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cornelius, and one great-granddaughter, Bobbi Jo Leber.
Grateful for having shared her life are three sons: Myron Neeman and his friend, Marti Cunningham of Centerville, John Neeman and his wife, Penny, of Sioux Falls and Harold Neeman and his friend, Sandra Miller, of Sioux Falls; her special friend, Harvey Bossman, of Tea; six grandchildren: Marlin Neeman, Mark Neeman, Marla Leber and her husband, Tim, Teresa Herman and her husband, Matt, Darla Neeman, Dawn Timmerman and her husband, Scott; eight great-grandchildren: Jordan and Ryelee Neeman, Cody Leber, Zachary, Lucas and Noah Herman, Nathan and Amanda Timmerman; her sister-in-law, Mildred Neeman of Chancellor; plus nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
